Admitted insurance policy
Synonyms: admitted and compliant insurance, legal insurance, filed insurance, compliant policy. Most often refers to the need for local national employees to be enrolled in a local health insurance scheme.
Expatriate Dental Insurance
Dental insurance for expatriates needs to be provided through an international insurance carrier that offers international dental insurance schemes on a group basis. Individual international dental insurance does not exist at this time. Home country dental insurance plans will not work in the host country.
Expatriate Group Disability Insurance
Expatriate disability insurance provided on a group insurance basis. Groups of just 2 or more expats can seek group international LTD insurance today when in the past over 10 employees were needed to form a group.
Expatriate Group Medical Insurance
Group medical insurance for 2 or more expats. Today there are carriers that will form a group of just two expatriates and forgo the medical questions that used to exist in the past. In addition, the expats do not need to even reside in the same country.
Expatriate Insurance United Kingdom
Synonyms: Expat insurance U.K., Inpat Insurance U.K., U.K. expat schemes. Refers to insurance programs offered to all expatriates in the United Kingdom to anyone that is not a U.K. national. BUPA International is the largest carrier that offers insurance to Brits working outside of the U.K.
Expatriate Life Insurance
Life insurance for expatriates can be offered on both an individual or group basis. The advantages of group insurance for expatriates for life insurance is a high guaranteed issue limit and those seeking insurance under the guaranteed issue amount would not need to provide medical evidence of insurability. Almost all individuals seeking expat life insurance will need to undergo a medical exam in order to obtain the benefit.
Foreign National Insurance
Synonyms: Local national insurance. Refers to insurance for foreign nationals working inside their country of citizenship. See "admitted insurance schemes"
Foreign workers compensation insurance
Synonyms: international workers compensation, foreign voluntary workers compensation, foreign work comp insurance, employers responsibility insurance. A medical program that covers on the job injury and illness while one is working overseas.
Inpat Insurance
Synonyms: inpatriate insurance, inpat program, foreign national in the U.S. Primarily refers to foreign nationals coming into the United States that need insurance and can refer to any foreign national entering a country from another country that needs insurance, from the perspective of a host country observer.
International Business Travel Insurance
Synonyms: Blanket travel insurance, international travel medical insurance: Mostly refers to a travel medical plan offered on a group basis to employees traveling outside of their country of citizenship for up to 90 days that need a supplementary international medical plan to support the limitations of traveling internationally under a host country medical plan.
International Insurance Broker / International Insurance Brokerage
An insurance broker that specifically handles international risk and insurance. A broker makes money by collecting commissions that are payable as part of international insurance and service products.
International Insurance Consultant
An insurance consultant that specifically handles international risk analysis. A consultant makes money by charging consulting fees directly to clients and not from commission on the insurance products placed for the insured.
International Workers Compensation Insurance
Synonyms: International foreign voluntary workers compensation insurance. See foreign workers comp insurance above.
Kidnap and Ransom Insurance
Synonyms: K&R insurance, KED insurance (Kidnap, Extortion, and Detention). An insurance program that would pay a lump sum benefit in the event an insured person is kidnapped. Other benefits of a good international kidnap and ransom insurance program include the following:
- Alternate loss of earnings endorsement
- Transit benefit to cover ransom money lost in transit
- Fees and expenses of the security company
- Legal liability to protect the assured from lawsuit
- Personal accident benefit
- Disappearance investigation and expense endorsement
- Threat response expense endorsement
- Express kidnap endorsement
- Hostage crisis endorsement
- TRIA endorsement
Local National Insurance
Synonyms: foreign national insurance, key local national plan, locally admitted insurance.
Offshore Insurance
Synonyms: Bermuda plan, offshore plan, alien insurer, non-admitted insurance. The Isle of Man, Guernsey, Cayman Islands, Aruba, and Bermuda are the main global center for offshore insurance. Offshore insurance plans are created for a variety of reasons, most notable for local nationals where the local admitted market cannot be utilized or there is no admitted market. Even today, offshore insurance is used to cover Iraqi nationals because after the fall of Sadam, there was no Iraqi insurance department or insurance regulation in Iraq.
Third Country National Insurance
Synonyms: TCN insurance, TCN schemes. Insurance placed on expatriates working outside of their home country, but not of the same nationality as the parent company. For example, a Japanese national working in Australia for an American company.
